Periscope Insights from Instagram and Donald Trump
Social Media is a lie.
We publish our best selves, the selves we aspire to and record as a memory of what we have been and could be again.
But it’s not real, and we all know it.
Real is popular
Donald Trump is presenting what appears to be an unvarnished, uncensored version of himself, one that the pundits are calling “Real,” and he’s surging in the polls.
There are over 138 million photos on Instagram with the hashtag #nofilter - it’s the 12th most popular hashtag on the site.
What’s going on?
I think people have got the message that messaging is often bullshit.
Politically, commercially, socially, the reality never lives up to the hype.
I think if you can show yourself unedited and uncensored and demonstrate that you know what you are talking about - then people are going to like it.
Why Periscope?
Because it’s live.
Because it’s interactive.
Because Periscope is about as real as it gets and people are desperate for real.
