You And Your New Habit
So we all know why we do content marketing - if it’s between you and a competitor and they have a regular blog and some kind of social media presence and you don’t - it’s likely that they’ll get the gig.
Add to that the power of a regular email newsletter to farm your existing clients and the case for producing content on a regular basis becomes pretty clear.
Yes - You’ve been Miyagi’d!
If you’ve been working with me for a while you’ll have developed new behaviors. At least once a month, if not once a week, you’ll have set aside time to create something - a blog post, a video, a newsletter etc. Some of you have even developed daily behaviors allowing you to use social media to create even more content.
Here’s the thing - the development of those behaviors was only the first step!
Time to get good
Most people fail with content marketing because they give up before they get better - hell - it’s the same for rock bands, for artists, for authors, etc. If you’re in the first few years of your content strategy you’re probably not seeing a huge amount of traction - and the likely reason is that your content probably isn’t very good...yet!
The more you do it, the more you create, the better you get and your content becomes more resonant.
The big takeaway from today’s newsletter is about managing expectations and recognizing that it takes time to get good. If you’re only writing once a month it’s going to take you much longer than if you’re writing on a weekly basis - and even then it can take years.
But one thing I do want to leave you with is - now that you’ve got this habit, these behaviors in place - bring more of your own personality into what you produce. Not only will that push you to be more considered in what you create, it will differentiate your content from the competition, because you’re unique - and so is your voice!
